AI Chatbot Features for BigCommerce
1.
Automatic setup. Enter your store URL. The chatbot uses accessible content to build its initial knowledge and suggest a role and tone of voice.
2.
Your content as knowledge. Add your pages, FAQs, and files to help the chatbot answer questions about your products, privacy policies, delivery conditions etc.
3.
Conversation rules. Define how the chatbot recommends products and when it should offer contact with your team for a quote or a specific request.
4.
Flexible appearance. Adjust colors, the chatbot’s name, and its avatar to match your BigCommerce store. Add a greeting and suggested questions to help visitors get started.
5.
Multilingual conversations. Help international shoppers ask questions and receive answers in their language as they browse your storefront.
Train Your AI Chatbot on Store Content
Use your product information and store policies to build a helpful shopping assistant. Add public URLs, upload files, and write custom Q&A for details that aren’t on your website.
BigCommerce product pages — Specifications, materials, dimensions, care instructions, and intended uses.
Category and buying guides — Differences between product ranges and how to choose a suitable option.
Shipping and return policies — Published delivery terms, return conditions, and warranty coverage.
Wholesale information pages — Published minimum quantities, application steps, and how to request a quote.
Files and custom Q&A — Product manuals, compatibility guidance, and answers missing from your store.
Add up to 200 web page URLs. Start with the products and categories shoppers ask about most. Use Retrain after updating product descriptions or policies, and add new URLs as your range grows.
Help customers move from a product question to a useful next step.
Open a product page — Show an action button linking to a relevant product or category so shoppers can review the details and continue their purchase.
Capture a sales inquiry — Collect a name, email, or phone number when someone needs buying advice, a bulk quote, or help with a specific requirement.
Offer human contact — Provide email, phone, or WhatsApp contact for order-specific questions or requests that need your sales or support team.
Book a product consultation — Connect Calendly or Cal.com so customers can choose a time to discuss a complex purchase or business order directly in the chat.
Follow up during the visit — Send a message after a period of inactivity to ask whether the shopper needs more information before deciding.
Match the chatbot’s colors to your storefront and choose its name and avatar to represent your store. Select a floating bubble or embedded chat window and adjust its placement to fit your shopping experience. Add a greeting and suggested questions such as “Which model should I choose?” or “What is your return policy?” to help customers start a conversation.
Track AI Chatbot Conversations and Leads
See which questions come up while shoppers compare products and consider a purchase.
Conversations — Read chat histories and summaries to understand buying questions.
Leads — Review submitted contact details with the conversation, so your sales team can follow up with context.
Analytics — Track chat sessions, messages, and collected leads to understand how customers use the chatbot.
Use knowledge gaps to find missing product details or unclear policies, then add the information shoppers need.
How to Add an AI Chatbot to BigCommerce
Follow this quick guide to install your chatbot on a page or through a shared Stencil theme template. If you need help, our support team offers free installation.
Add the chatbot to a specific store page
1.
Create your chatbot in the intuitive editor and copy its installation code from the dashboard.
2.
Open Storefront → Themes and launch Page Builder for your active theme.
3.
Choose the page, drag an HTML block into an available region, and paste the code.
4.
Save the HTML, publish your changes, and test the live page.
Add a floating chatbot through a shared template
1.
Open Edit Theme Files for an editable copy of your Stencil theme.
2.
In templates → layout → base.html, paste the installation code before {{{footer.scripts}}}.
3.
Save and apply the theme changes. The chatbot will appear on storefront pages using that layout; checkout may require separate setup.
Tip: These steps are for Stencil storefronts. Page Builder regions vary by theme, and Catalyst or other headless storefronts need a different setup. Our support team can help you choose the right method.
One widget, one snippet. Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, GoDaddy, Elementor, or plain HTML — pick another platform to see how it installs there.
Yes. AI Chatbot offers a free plan with one chatbot, 50 visitor messages per month, and 200 monthly widget views. There’s no time limit or credit card required. Your BigCommerce subscription is separate.
Adding the widget does not create a live catalog connection. Train it on public product URLs, files, or custom Q&A, then use Retrain when source information changes. Add new product URLs separately. This setup does not provide live inventory or customer-specific pricing.
It can explain the order and return policies you provide and direct shoppers to your support team or returns page. It does not look up private orders, issue refunds, or change an order through the standard installation. Those requests should go to your team or your existing customer service flow.
Yes. Add your public wholesale terms, minimum order information, and product guidance. The chatbot can answer initial questions and collect contact details for your sales team to prepare a quote. It does not access a buyer’s private B2B account, negotiated prices, or credit terms.
For Multi-Storefront, review installation for each storefront and use knowledge that matches its products and policies. Installing on one storefront does not automatically cover the others. Catalyst and other headless storefronts use a different frontend from Stencil, so ask our team to review the setup with your developer.
